About Founder Michael Ginn

Michael Ginn was a distinguished professional and globally recognized expert in industrial minerals, renowned for his leadership in processing exothermic waste streams for energy and material recovery, including minerals, metals, and other valuable resources. His innovative approaches created significant value from recovered materials.

Michael earned a B.S. in Geology from Georgia Southern University in 1976, followed by M.S. degrees in Material Science and Engineering and Mineral Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1980. He began his career at Nord Kaolin Company as Assistant Manager of Mining, Exploration, and Research. In 1985, he joined ECC International Americas, where he held various roles in research, process and product development, and management.

In 1995, Michael founded Ginn Mineral Technology, and in 1998, he established the Ginn Technology Group, a collection of private companies focused on mineral technology, energy, and environmental solutions under the banner of “Innovative Earth Technology.” His work encompassed mineral exploration, mining, processing, product development, and global product distribution. Michael’s environmental and sustainability initiatives included pioneering the processing of exothermic waste streams for energy and material recovery. Through the Earth Circle Technologies Group (ECT), part of the Ginn Technology Group, he developed groundbreaking technology that “closed the loop” in paper and carpet recycling, a global first. Michael held numerous patents and intellectual property in areas such as super-conducting magnetic separation, exothermic waste stream processing, thermal mineral processing, capillary filtration, and mineral separation/concentration.

The Ginn Mineral Technology Research Center and Pilot Plant is based in his hometown of Sandersville, Georgia. Michael was actively involved in professional societies related to mining, minerals, pulp and paper, carpet, and recycling. He served in leadership roles, including Chairman of the Georgia section of SME, and was an Emeritus Member of the Advisory Board of the School of Materials Science and Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. In 2011, he was honored with induction into the “Academy of Distinguished Alumni” at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Michael’s legacy continues to inspire innovation and sustainability in the fields he championed.
